Owl with the Great Head and Eyes

Micah (Knob Twister)Host00:05

I always start. You want to start?

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host00:09

That's okay. Welcome to tales of bedlam. I am your host. Vert to vert and I'm micah oh, and now? I gotta do the other part too. He's throwing me off today, throwing him off making me do stuff that I'm not used to.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host00:31

Hey, thanks for listening in today. We have got a great tale for you today, northern native American tale called the owl with the great head and eyes we were just discussing how a lot of Native American tales use animals as their characters, which isn't as often in Brothers Grimm, but Dustin did point out that we've just skipped over a lot of those stories.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host00:59

Yeah, there's a bunch of animal ones there that we just haven't done. But yeah, native Americans related a lot to the wildlife and animals. That was their folklore.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host01:10

Sometimes you can't distinguish between an animal and a person in the story, which is pretty cool too. I guess the animals were representing human behavior. As you'll see next week in our tale Spoiler alert. Yeah it's not really a spoiler alert but, just foreshadowing what we're doing next week for Thursday and we have great news.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host01:41

We do have very good news, vision Con. We have great news. We do have very good news, visioncon.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host01:45

We'll have all the information there, along with a link to purchase tickets.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host02:44

Yay, Do it, do it.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host02:46

Brohammer. So, without further ado, Dustin, will you start us on Owl with the Great Head and Eyes I would love to.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host02:58

Oh, I've read this name ten times and I'm still going to fumble it. Long ago, when Glooscap was ruler of the Indians and when the animals all worked for him and talked like men, Wolf was one of Rabbit's enemies, Seems reasonable. On the surface they seemed to be friends, but each was afraid of the other and each suspected the other of treachery.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host03:22

Usually one ate the other.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host03:24

Yeah, rabbit was very faithful to his work as the forest guide who showed people the way to far places, but he was also a great trickster, nice, and he delighted to play pranks on everyone he met A little Loki Loki-ish stuff going on here.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host03:46

I could see Thor as being the wolf too.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host03:48

Yeah, yeah here we go. He liked more than all to pester wolf, for he had a hatred for his cruel ways and he was always able to outwit him it happened that rabbit and wolf lived close together.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host04:05

Deep in the forest, some distance from them, in a little house, lived a poor widow woman who had only one daughter. Oh dear, I bet she's beautiful. She was very beautiful, shocking, with hair as black as the raven's wing and with eyes like the dark of the underwater. Interesting rabbit and wolf each fell in love with her and each, in his own way, sought her as his wife and hence started bestiality in america, oh my gosh, and you just had to go there.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host04:48

Rabbit tried hard to win her love. When he went to her house he always dressed himself in a soft brown coat and he put on a bangle around his neck and bells upon his feet that would irritate the living crap out of me. And often he played sweetly on his flute, hoping to charm her with his music, for he was a great player upon the Indian pipe and he tried to grow a mustache to hide his split lip. He's a cleft lip, rabbit, what the heck. But he had little success, for his whiskers would not grow thick and he had the thin, scraggly mustache of a few hares to this day.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host05:30

I have that problem. I have that issue as well. I can't really grow a beard. I'm ashamed to say yeah it looks fine. Does that make me less of a man?

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host05:39

Don't sit there and stare at me while you're stroking your face. It's freaking me out. I can't deal with that. But no matter what Rabbit did to adorn himself, the girl gave him cold looks, and old Wolf seemed to be deeper in her favor, for she liked his willowy form and sleek and bashful ways. And poor Rabbit was sore distressed.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host06:03

Oh, poor Rabbit, Poor Rabbit. One fine day in the springtime, rabbit came upon the girl and her mother gathering May flowers among the moss. Don't forget, may will be at Vision Con.

Caller 1Host06:19

True that.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host06:20

He crept close to listen to their talk.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host06:23

He heard the mother say I have no stomach for little rabbit, but wolf pleases me well, you must marry wolf. They tell me he is a great hunter, and if you marry him we shall never want for food.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host06:42

Now we're back to ordering people to marry people for food. Now we're back to ordering people to marry people. When Rabbit heard this, he was very sad. He determined that on no account should Wolf marry the widow's daughter and that he must use all his power to prevent it.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host07:00

Treachery, so he strapped on his bells and grabbed his flute.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host07:08

That night, apparently after strapping on the bells and flute, he went alone to the girl's house. He spoke sneeringly of Wolf, saying with a bitter frown Wolf is no hunter. He never catches any game because he is lazy and has no brains. I like rabbit. I always have to feed him to keep him from starving. He is but a beast of burden. I always ride upon his back when I go to a far country, for he's good for nothing else. Oh man, he's just mean.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host07:41

He's picking a fight. The girl's mother wondered greatly I would too. And she was very startled by this news, for she did not want her daughter to marry a good-for-nothing. Breaking news the wolf is a good-for-nothing, worthless hunter. But she was not sure that Rabbit spoke the truth, wise woman, for she had heard that sometimes he told great lies.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host08:15

So she said If you will ride Wolf over here, I will leave you and he shall not marry my daughter daughter and you shall marry her yourself.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host08:31

And Rabbit went home. Sorry, what a deal. And Rabbit went home well pleased and sure of a happy ending to his trick. Except, how is the rabbit going to ride a wolf?

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host08:47

Well, I bet we rabbit going to ride a wolf. Well, I bet we're gonna find out and we're back to this. Girl doesn't have any say in who she marries. I thought she liked the wolf. Come on, people. Woman power come on the next day, rabbit purposely met Wolf in the forest and he said I forgot my rabbit voice. What was my rabbit voice?

Micah (Knob Twister)Host09:08

Oh, it was kind of dark and trickstery.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host09:13

Let us go together to see the widow's daughter.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host09:17

Well, that was a little bit too dark.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host09:18

All right and Wolf was glad to go. They had not gone far when Rabbit began to cry. Then he lay down on the ground and rolled over and moaned and rubbed his belly as if in great distress. I have a sharp pain in my belly. He sobbed I cannot walk any further. If I walk I shall surely die, and I cannot go on unless you carry me on your back.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host09:50

Sounds like you, Dustin. It's very true.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host09:54

I think I've done that, in fact I'm sure of it, but nobody carried me though. I just had to lay there and everybody went on without me. Wolf willingly agreed, for he wanted to see the beautiful girl and he was very sorry for poor rabbit in his pain. And rabbit, laughing to himself, climbed on wolf's back. Wolf ran along, not feeling the load, for rabbit was very light. They had not gone far when rabbit cried again and said I cannot ride without a saddle, for your bare back hurts me and gives me blisters. What a jerk. So they borrowed a little saddle from a field, by the way, just laying around. Yeah, a wolf saddle just laying around in the field on the way.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host10:45

This is the Wild West Cowboys and Indians.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host10:48

Whoa, I'm not sure that you can say that they're native americans sorry, cowboys and native americans and he put it on the wolf's back soon. Rabbit said this is fine fun, let's let us play that. You're a horse and I am a great rider. I should like to put a little bridle on you and wear spurs on my feet and carry a whip. And the story just got really dark. Is this safe for kids to listen to from here on out? Yes, yes.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host11:18

It's getting a little weird, it is. And Wolf, wishing to please Rabbit to make him forget his pain, gladly agreed. So they borrowed a little bridle and spurs and a whip from another field nearby and did as Rabbit asked and together they went to the girls' home, wolf trotting along like a little horse and Rabbit laughing to himself sitting in the saddle with his spurs, and his whip what?

11:50

the heck holding the bridle reins. When they drew near the house, rabbit made a great noise so that the mother and her daughter might look out to see where the shouting came from, and called loudly.

Caller 1Host12:04

Whoa, whoa.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host12:07

And the girl and her mother opened the door, looked out at them in wonder. Then, as they were looking on Rabbit chuckling to himself, struck Wolf a stinging blow with his whip and struck his spurs deep into Wolf's sides and called him loudly a lazy beast. What Wolf jumped and plunged and kicked because of the prick of the spurs and the sting of the whip. He was very cross, but he said nothing.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host12:44

What? Why didn't he say anything?

Micah (Knob Twister)Host12:47

I don't know.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host12:48

I think this wolf should turn around and devour the rabbit this story better end with rabbit stew, or I'm not going to be very happy. Some distance away, rabbit tied wolf to a tree. This wolf needs some assertion classes. He is just getting pushed around by this rabbit or self With some self-esteem or something Jeez.

13:13

He tied him to a tree saying stay here and I will send the girl to you. And the wolf didn't say oh, I see your belly pain's gone away all of a sudden, you big dope. Then he went to the house and he said to the woman now you believe that the wolf is a beast of burden? For I have ridden here on his back and the woman believed him. She told him to give wolves some corn or grass. I don't think he's going to like that.

13:46

She told him to give wolves some corn or grass. That just seemed random, like he were a horse Okay, unless they're just being mean to the wolf. But Rabbit said he doesn't eat corn or grass, he eats only fresh meat. Uh-oh, for he knew well that Wolf would be quite contented if he got a good meal of meat. Then she gave him some fresh meat which he brought to Wolf, and Wolf was happy he's kind of adult, right, I think so and then his anger disappeared.

Caller 1Host14:19

He's kind of like Hans.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host14:20

He said, no, I got some food now I'm fine. And he forgot the pain of the spurs and the whip and he thought it was fine, fun to get a good meal so easily and be tied to a tree.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host14:33

So easily. I think it would have been easier to turn his head and eat the rabbit.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host14:38

Yeah, I'm with you.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host14:40

The woman promised that Rabbit should marry her daughter, and when night fell, rabbit went home. Well pleased, leaving Wolf still tied to the tree. What the heck home? Well pleased, leaving Wolf still tied to the tree. It was so dark that Wolf did not see him leaving the house, and for a long time he thought he was still inside, and he waited long in the starlight. At last he grew tired waiting, for he was hungry and was cold. Standing still in the chill night air of early spring, he cut with his teeth the bridal ring that tied him to the tree, and then he went to the woman's house, but the woman would not let him in. She told him to go away, that she never wished to see him again, and she called him a lazy beast of burden. He went home in great danger, for he knew now that he had been tricked and he swore that he would have vengeance on that rabbit.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host15:40

Dun, dun, dun. Oh eat the bunny, eat the bunny.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host15:49

This would be a good time for us to take one of our awesome voicemails.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host15:55

Oh we'd love to get them and listen to them. Keep sending them.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host15:58

Yeah, call us at 417-501-4681. Leave us a voice message and you can be on our show.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host16:06

Absolutely. We have proof coming up.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host16:20

Hello.

Caller 1Host16:22

Oh hello.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host16:24

Hello, hello, um hello.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host16:32

Hello.

Caller 2Host16:32

No one is available to take your call. Please leave a message after the tone. Hello, Thank you for Tales of Bedlam. My daughter has shared this with me and I just got the tale of Vasilisa with the golden dress and Ivan the Pete. What's the deal with four crowns? You never find out. Love the story.

Caller 1Host16:53

I thought it was really wonderful. Baba Yaga, thrown into about every fairy tale, also known as John Wick, is just great, and he probably did have to pee after two buckets of mead. All right, thank you, thank you.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host17:10

I would personally like to thank daughter and mom for this awesome call.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host17:14

That was amazing. Thanks for calling.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host17:17

And I don't know about the four crowns myself, but I think we might be mishearing what she's saying there.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host17:25

Oh, it was lovely. It brought a cheer to my eye.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host17:28

If you'd like to hear the episode that they were referring to, that would be episode number.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host17:34

Oh, it was the long title, longest title 34.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host17:39

Hang on, I gotta get a deep breath for this title the Story of Vasilisa with the Golden Tress, end of Ivan the Pea.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host17:49

That's a long title. We got that.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host17:50

That's one long title. We got that. That's one of our wonderful stories from Russia.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host17:56

Now, I don't know much about John Wick.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host17:59

Here we go.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host18:00

But I love Baba Yaga, also known as John Wick. All right, I guess we love Baba Yaga? Yes, we do, and John Wick's pretty cool too. We love Baba Yaga? Yes, we do, and John Wick's pretty cool too.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host18:13

He's not pretty cool, he's amazeballs.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host18:17

What.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host18:21

Thank you again for your call and don't forget you can leave us a call too, at 417-501-4681. And you could be on our show. You'll be famous, that's right. Almost as famous as we are Never be as famous as me. I'm naked and famous so let's get back to the story. We have Rabbit and Wolf who are in love with this beautiful girl and Rabbit was naughty. Yes, he rode the wolf to visit the girl, proving that the wolf was a useless beast.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host19:01

And the wolf has swore vengeance.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host19:03

That's right that he would have vengeance on the rabbit.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host19:09

The next day Rabbit learned from the woman that she had spurned Wolf from her door, and he knew that Wolf realized that he had been deceived. He was somewhat frightened, for he dreaded Wolf's vengeance, and for several days he hid among the trees yeah, you big coward. Then hunger drove him out and he went forth to look for food. One evening he entered a garden in search of cabbage.

Caller 2Host19:37

Donkey cabbages.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host19:41

And he was busy robbing it. He's a thief too, and the people who own the garden spied him and they said here is the thief who has been stealing our vegetables. We will catch him and teach him a lesson.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host19:55

They got their shotgun Before Rabban knew it. They were upon him for he was eating heartily. He was so hungry and they caught him and bound him fast to a tree and went to get scalding water to pour upon his back to teach him not to rob their garden again. That'll teach him. That's weird, because when I find a rabbit in my garden, I just kill it. Oh, you're so brutal, but while they were away. Wait, more brutal than scalding him with hot water, scarring him for life.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host20:33

Would you rather be scalded for life or killed? Depends.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host20:39

If I'm just disfigured and no longer this perfect specimen of manly beauty.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host20:48

Excuse me, something caught on my throat.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host20:52

Anyway. But while they were away, wolf came along. Uh-oh, he too was very hungry, for he had eaten no meal for many days. But he was glad when he saw rabbit. Rabbit, for now. He thought he would have his revenge. Rabbit saw him at a distance and he resolved to try another trick on him and to hail him as if he thought he was still his friend, and he cried out to him help me, wolf, help me.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host21:29

The people here asked me to eat up a nice little lamb, and when I refused to do it, they tied me to this tree and they have gone to bring the lamb to me. What that well, come on, wolf. Was too hungry to be cautious. What wolf? Come on wolf. Oh, and he forgot all about Rabbit's tricks, really, for spring lamb was his favorite food and he said I will eat up the lamb and he smacked his lips as he spoke and thought of the nice tender meal he would have.

22:10

Then Rabbit said Untie me and take me to my place, for the people will soon be here with the lamb. So Wolf untied him like a big dumb dolt and Rabbit in turn bound Wolf fast to the tree.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host22:26

There's something wrong with this picture.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host22:29

Wolf's got to get his crap together, and, laughing to himself because he had again outwitted stupid Wolf, he ran rapidly away.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host22:38

Far off, he hid behind the trees to see what would happen. Come on Soon, the people came back carrying the pots of scalding water. Wolf saw them coming and he was in high spirits, For he thought the lamb he was to eat was in one of the pots.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host22:57

He wasn't concerned about being tied to the tree again.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host23:01

Well, he thought that they were going to force the bunny to eat the lamb. Oh, that's right, that's right, I got it. It was moonlight and in the shadow of the great tree. The people could not see very clearly and they thought Wolf was rabbit.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host23:17

How big is this rabbit?

Micah (Knob Twister)Host23:20

Well, considering that he wants to love a girl I don't know, Maybe it's.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host23:27

Oh, that's just weird.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host23:29

Weird Still bound fast where they had left him. So they poured the scalding water on his back and kicked him, and knocked him on the head with a big stick. This is terribly violent. And they said Now, thief, we have taught you how dangerous it is to rob gardens in the spring moonlight. Wolf howled with pain.

Caller 1Host23:59

Oh.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host24:03

For his back was blistered and his head was sore. Poor wolf and Rabbit heard him and he sang Sorry.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host24:14

He sang. No, I thought we didn't have to sing this time.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host24:19

And he sat on a log and shook with laughter because of the success of his prank.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host24:27

This rabbit's ticking me off. Then the people untied Wolf and let him go, and they still didn't realize it was a wolf and not a rabbit. He went away wearily among the trees and he again swore vengeance on Rabbit and resolved to kill him as soon as he set eyes upon him, for he knew he had been tricked a second time. Fool me twice, oh oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host25:05

Oh.

Caller 2Host25:06

Nicotine high oh man.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host25:10

Rabbit's mouth was full of tobacco, but he laughed loudly when he saw Wolf's back bound in bandages because of the blisters.

Caller 2Host25:16

My man.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host25:18

So he just laughed at him and his sore had tied up in cloth. But when he saw Wolf's angry eyes Angry eyes, I know all about angry eyes he was frightened and he ran away into the woods. The moon was shining in the forest and wolf could catch a glimpse now and then of the his brown coat among the trees, and he chased after him for a long time.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host25:42

Rabbit tried all his tricks to shake him from his tracks, but without avail. Get him At last. When Rabbit was almost worn out, he took refuge in a hollow tree into which he slipped through a small hole where Wolf could not follow him. And Wolf said Now I have him in my power, kill him. I will kill him, Eat him. Kill him, I will kill him, eat him, but first I must go home to get my axe to cut down the tree and chop off his head, what? Obviously, this wolf has no fangs.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host26:20

I don't know what's going on. He's going to leave him there.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host26:24

Then he looked around for someone to keep watch over the tree while he was gone, there we go. So that the rabbit could not escape. And finally we get the owl.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host26:35

I know, Phew, that's right, I forgot that was called the owl.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host26:39

I know. At last he saw owl sitting quietly on a branch near. He called to him and said Watch by this hole until I get back and do not let Rabbit get away. So Owl came down and sat by the hole and promised to keep guard over the prisoner and Wolf went away to look for his axe. How's a wolf going to even use?

Micah (Knob Twister)Host27:11

an axe.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host27:12

How did the rabbit saddle up the wolf? And?

Micah (Knob Twister)Host27:15

spur him Again. We're kind of getting into animals that represent humans.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host27:21

Yeah, I was kind of blurring over the lines here. What the heck? Okay, rabbit's going to die, right? No, what? But Rabbit was not caught yet and he had another trick left. After Wolf had gone away he called to Owl sitting by the hole and said Owl, come and see what a nice little room I have in the tree.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host27:48

But Owl replied Woo, it's too dark, I cannot see Woo woo.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host27:55

Hmm. Then Rabbit said Open your eyes wide and put your face close to the hole, for I have a light in here and you can see easily.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host28:05

I think that no one should do whatever the rabbit says.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host28:10

The rabbit has some pretty crazy charismatic powers, or something Owl did, as he was told, for he was a curious fellow Rabbit had a great mouthful of tobacco juice from the Indian tobacco leaves he had been chewing.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host28:24

Oh gross.

Caller 1Host28:26

And I can't read it.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host28:36

And when Owl put his face close to the hole he squirted the juice into Owl's eyes. He's gagged a little bit. Owl screamed loudly, for his eyes were smarting and he was blinded by the juice. He ran around the tree and stamped and shrieked and rubbed his eyes, trying to relieve them of their pain. And while he was about it, rabbit slipped out of the hole and ran away and owl did not know he was gone.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host29:00

This is not going very well for everybody but the rabbit. Soon wolf came back carrying his big sharp axe. Oh no, and he said, now I shall kill him at last. Oh no, owl was afraid to tell him about his sore eyes. They were still open wide and he could not close them.

Caller 2Host29:25

Oh.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host29:26

At once Wolf chopped down the hollow tree. Then he split it open from end to end, but there was no sign of Rabbit. Wolf then thought Owl had tricked him and that he had helped Rabbit to escape. But Owl said he had helped rabbit to escape. But owl said he had not. He sat with his eyes wide open, staring stupidly and moaning and making strange noises because of his pain. Wolf thought he was laughing at him and taunting him, for he did not know the meaning of owll's strange cries and in his rage he fell to beating him over the head with the axe handle until poor Owl's head was swollen to a great size.

30:16

This is horribly violent and Owl cried.

Caller 2Host30:19

Hoot, hoot, hoot.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host30:23

And his eyes stared from his swollen head, even larger than before.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host30:31

What that hoot, that hoot, that hoot yeah it did.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host30:38

When does the rabbit get eaten? The wolf went on his way, resolved to keep away from rabbit. That's probably a good plant and since that time owl has cried.

30:50

Hoot, hoot, hoot at night, for he still remembers his pain and his head is still swollen and bigger than that of other birds because of the beating wolf gave him with the axe handle and his eyes are still large, large and they stare stupidly and he cannot look at the light and he is blind in the daylight because of the tobacco juice Rabbit squirted into his eyes. And since that night Rabbit and Wolf have avoided each other and they have not lived in the same place and they have never since been friends. So that was a really long, convoluted way to explain owls' eyes and why wolves and rabbits don't get along.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host31:36

Why owls have a large head and big eyes that never seem to blink.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host31:42

Are you winking at me seem to blink.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host31:53

Are you winking at me? I I'm. Hmm. The real tragedy in this tale is that poor beautiful girl who lives in the woods and never will get to marry.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host31:57

That's why they just forgot about her. She'll never get married. I'm sure she'll get married. Her mother will just give her off to whoever comes by next. Who knows?

Micah (Knob Twister)Host32:09

The turtle or A wandering prince.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host32:11

Yeah, you never know, those German princes get lost pretty easily.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host32:15

She should take up singing. That seems to work.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host32:21

No more singing, please. Thank you.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host32:24

That hoot, so it was a nature story.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host32:27

They were just describing what they saw around them in nature.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host32:31

I've read a lot of Native American tales lately, and a lot of them do describe how things came to be.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host32:39

Right.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host32:39

Certain animals and rivers or land, different things, how they came to be and they're. A weird story like this that explains how the buffalo came to be, or how the coyote came to be, or the turtle. They're odd.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host33:00

But we'll have more. It's different than what we're used to, because I was looking for some kind of moral at the end.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host33:11

Like don't be a nasty trickster or the wolf will eat you.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host33:16

None of the Native American tales that I have read so far have had an actual moral.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host33:18

That I can see. They're usually describing how something came to be.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host33:24

Excellent. Well, I might have to rewrite the end of this one and read it next time, because I was not happy with that.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host33:31

That sounds good. Maybe it would just be a bonus episode.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host33:35

Yeah, I think there should be rabbits too at the end of this story.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host33:40

Write it up, we'll read it and air it. I'll think about it, Just do it. I'll think about it, Just do it. Like the famous Greek god Nike said just do it.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host33:55

I don't believe that's how that went.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host33:57

I am very versed in folklore. I know what I'm talking about. I've done 38 episodes.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host34:08

We haven't read any Greek mythology yet.

Caller 2Host34:12

That might be good.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host34:13

I've read a lot of Greek mythology and I don't remember the god Nike saying just do it.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host34:19

Maybe in a couple weeks we'll do a Greek fairy tale, or I guess it would be a Greek myth.

Dustin (Sofa Sitter)Host34:25

Myth, fairy tale, folklore. We like them all, we do it all.

Micah (Knob Twister)Host34:31

Bye.
